Metrix®

Metrix® is revolutionary, easy-to-use software that automatically determines the most efficient, cost-effective imposition layouts. How? By using its sophisticated algorithms and print industry logic to analyze the orders ready to be printed, the available presses, finishing equipment and stocks, then calculating the most cost-effective layouts and delivering the imposed data directly to the prepress system or CtP device, via JDF or PDF. No imposition software required!

Metrix has become the recognized leader in planning and imposition automation because it eliminates the complexities inherent in the production planning process, and does so with ease and simplicity. Job specs can be entered right in Metrix, or imported from your MIS/Order Entry system via JDF, XML, or CSV. Metrix has been designed from the ground up to be interoperable with JDF-enabled prepress systems and JDF- or CIP3-enabled cutters, folders, and binding machines. Some people call Metrix the only intelligent, automated job planning and imposition system. Others simply say, “With Metrix, work just flows.”

Which companies benefit from Metrix?

  • Printers producing flat and folded work.
  • Printers producing bound work, including saddle-stitched and perfect bound books, magazines, catalogs, pamphlets, newsletter, and more.
  • Printers receiving orders via a Web-to-print system
  • Printers who do gang-run work – or want to do more of it.

Who operates Metrix?

Estimators use Metrix to calculate imposition layouts and select the most efficient and cost-effective option. Estimators can input the job parameters directly in Metrix, or import the job specification data from the MIS or Order Entry system.

Planners & CSRs use Metrix to calculate the optimum imposition layouts -- without folding dummies or cumbersome software. Jobs formerly impossible or unprofitable because they were too difficult to plan, become feasible and profitable.

Prepress operators are freed from the burden of creating and managing extensive libraries of imposition templates, and interact with Metrix when the project plans have been approved and are ready to be sent to the prepress system for proofing or plate-making.

How does Metrix work?

Once the the Metrix database has been populated with your company's presses, binding machines, stocks, customer information, and workflow-specific setups, Metrix is ready to produce layout plans and imposition data. The operator inputs or imports the project parameters (product order quantities, sizes, folding, stock type, and finishing), then Metrix takes care of the rest, creating a range of suggested layouts, ranked according to cost, for your operator to select from. Metrix can generate a complete report that identifies every detail of the project, including product(s) to be produced, the quantity of each product, selected press equipment, stock and grain, inks used, binding equipment, and finishing details. Once the project is ready for production, the imposition data is automatically generated and exported to the prepress system, via JDF Imposition or Imposed PDF. Cutting, Folding, and Binding data can also be generated by Metrix and sent to enabled finishing equipment, eliminating errors and drastically reducing machine setup time.
